About

Francesco Fiorentino, who holds a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering, joined the Department of Biomedical Engineering at UIC in September 2024 as an M.Sc. thesis student in Professor Shokuhfar’s laboratory. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree from the Polytechnic of Bari (Bari, Italy) in Medical System (Biomedical) Engineering in 2021. His Bachelor thesis focused on biomedical instrumentation related to aesthetic medicine and the application of lasers in the medical field, analyzing their effects on tissues. The thesis also explored various aesthetic biomedical instruments, including pulsed light and radio frequency technologies.

Francesco has one and a half years of experience as a software engineer with the Fincons Group (2022-2023), where he worked with several programming languages, including Java, HTML, and Python. Currently, he is completing his Master of Science degree in Biomechanical Engineering at the Polytechnic of Turin (2021-present). His master’s thesis involves the preparation and characterization of superficial oxide layers obtained through anodization on titanium alloys for biomedical applications, specifically focusing on the loading of nanotubes with loading the obtained nanotubes with drugs and analysis of the drug diffusion process, comparing the results with those obtained from FEM/MD simulations.

Research Interests
1. Electrochemical Anodization of Titanium (Nanotubes)
2. Titanium  Dioxide Characterization
3. Drug Diffusion
4. Drug Delivery Modelling
